Abstract

This article approaches the main proposals of La Mujer (1899-1902), an illustrated magazine founded in Buenos Aires by the Spanish publicist Eduardo Sojo, and how they modernized the women's press field of the period from the visual and thematic point of view. These contents incorporated erotic and satirical elements that questioned the moral codes of its time. In this way, the publication acted as an interlocutor of a society that was undergoing strong socio-political changes in the early twentieth century, including in its pages new ways of representing women which distance themselves from the classic nineteenth century domesticity to place the female body and sexuality at the center of their interests.
